Challenges 

  • Crisis in the making for skilled workers: 76 million baby boomers retiring.
  • At current capacity, only 1 of 3 of openings will be filled. 

Solutions 

  • Replace limited access, overcrowded and out-of-date classrooms/labs with state-of-the-art facilities to attract and accommodate high technology seeking students to fill the massive skills gap (See listing of high technology programs).
  • Continue legacy of excellence by supporting the 50 for 50 campaign.
  • $50 million in private funds/grants/state funds for construction, expansion, equipment, furnishings and endowments.
  • Six new programs of study are proposed based on needs in the region with additional construction space and equipment needs.

  • Governor announced support/funding of $35 million with local match of $3.5 million for the Emerging Technologies Complex.

  • Our vision for the Emerging Technologies Complex positions it to extend beyond Northeast Tennessee to encompass the 21st Century Global Marketplace - a new standard and catalyst for economic development and business and industry education worldwide.
