Available Tests

Testing is by appointment only. Please review the information for each test before scheduling a test date.

The ACT Compass test is available on the Blountville, Elizabethton, Johnson City, and Kingsport campuses. Testing in Blountville is available several days each week. Testing is available in Johnson City and Kingsport twice a month, but is limited to Elizabethton once a month during peak months. There is a $5 testing fee for first-time test takers. A reminder of your scheduled test date will be sent to your email account. For practice tests and more information, go to Compass. All test scheduling is completed online. Northeast State also proctors Compass for non-Northeast State students who will attend other colleges. The testing fee is $25 for non-Northeast State students.



The cost for each CLEP exam is $105. $80 is paid to the College Board, and $25 is paid to Northeast State. Scheduling a CLEP test requires two steps. First, create an online account at the College Board and pay the $80 per exam. The $80 fee cannot be paid in the Testing Center. The $25 CLEP Registration Fee must be paid at the Cashier's Office (Room P203A) on the second floor of the James Pierce Administration Building on the Blountville campus prior to testing. This fee may be paid on the same day of the scheduled test. Northeast State proctors computer-based and paper-based exams for Distance Learners and Employee Certification tests for business and industry. It is the responsibility of the test taker to make sure Testing Services has the correct test and/or proctoring information. Home institutions or companies may email testing@NortheastState.edu for verifying information. Test takers are responsible for paying postage when paper exams must be mailed back to the home institution. There is a $25 fee for each proctored exam. Please check the online schedule for availability. If dates are not available, email testing@NortheastState.edu. The $25 fee must be paid at the Cashier's Office (P203A) on the second floor of the James Pierce Administration Building on the Blountville campus before testing. Check-in for the exams is in Room C2101 of the General Studies Building. The Testing Center is located in Room C2106.

Associate degree seeking students take the Proficiency Profile/Exit Exam before graduation. Testing is available on the Blountville, Johnson City, and Kingsport campuses. When scheduling a test date, select the location, test date, and time. Provide your name, phone numbers, and an email address. A reminder of your test date will be sent to your email account. Only students who have submitted a graduation application and received notification from the Office of Admissions and Records may test. Please visit How to Graduate for more information.



This exam may not fulfill the Computer Proficiency requirements at transfer institutions. Students wishing to transfer to other colleges or universities with Computer Proficiency requirements must contact the transfer institution for verification of exam acceptance before scheduling the INFS Credit-by-Exam.

ETSU will accept the INFS Credit-by-Exam as the graduation requirement for Using Information Technology (UIT) at the university. No transfer credit for CSCI 1100 at the university will be awarded by ETSU.

A Request for Credit by Examination Form must be obtained in Room F211 of the Faculty Office Building on the Blountville campus. After obtaining the form, a test date may be scheduled. The exam is only available on the Blountville campus. The $25 fee must be paid at the Cashier's Office (Room P203A) on the second floor of the James Pierce Administration Building on the Blountville campus prior to testing. Check-in for the exam is in Room C2101 of the General Studies Building. The Testing Center is located in Room C2106.



The Testing Center is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. No appointments are necessary. Students will be tested as seats become available. Photo ID is required to test.

Appointments are required from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. each day and for all times on Thursdays. Appointments must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. Testing check-in is in Room C2101 of the General Studies Building on the Blountville campus. Testing is proctored in the Testing Center, Room C2106.

The A2 Admission Assessment is required for all students applying to Northeast State's A.A.S. Nursing program. Testing will open Spring 2016. The LPN to RN Entrance Exam is an admission requirement only for LPNs who have already completed the required core classes for Northeast State’s A.A.S. Nursing Program or who will be completing the required core classes at the end of the Spring Semester and are applying for the LPN to RN program.
