FAQ - Northeast State at Johnson City


Q: What classes do you offer?
A: Day and evening courses are offered at the Northeast State at Johnson City campus Monday through Friday. The campus offers a variety of courses in General Education, Business Management, Computer and Information Sciences, and Office Administration Technology in varying formats and modalities. See the Schedule of Classes for further details.

Q: Is advisement available at the campus?
A: Each student is assigned a faculty advisor based upon his or her major. Advisement services at the Johnson City campus are provided by staff and administrators from the Blountville campus at select hours and days each term. Students needing academic assistance are encouraged to seek advisement from their assigned advisor by scheduling an appointment via Appointment Plus. Students may call 423.323.0229 if they are unsure of their advisor’s name and/or office phone number.

Q: Can I buy books at the campus?
A: Books for classes taught in Johnson City are provided through the bookstore at Northeast State’s Blountville campus or online via the Bookstore.

Q: Are Library services available? 
A: The Learning Resource Center (LRC) is located in Room J1022. The LRC is linked to the Library on the Blountville campus via an automated system and offers access to the online catalog, the Internet, and a variety of full-text databases. The LRC is staffed by Blountville campus personnel on a regular basis. Please see the Johnson City campus calendar for precise times and dates.

Q: Does the campus have open computer lab time scheduled?
A: The LRC serves as an open computer lab during regular business hours, and availability is based on the number of occupants utilizing the service at any given time. All computer lab classrooms are available for student use when not occupied by regularly scheduled classes. In addition, course software and Internet access, including access to Northeast State’s Library (Blountville), are available in the labs. Learning Support and Microsoft Office software are also available in the LRC.

Q: If I get my parking permit at one Northeast State campus, will it be good at all other Northeast State locations?
A: All vehicles operated on a Northeast campus by students, faculty, and staff must be registered each academic year with the College. A valid parking hangtag documenting the registration must be prominently displayed when the vehicle is parked on campus. Parking permits may be obtained at Northeast State at Johnson City’s Security Office or through the Campus Police on the Blountville campus. The permits are valid at all Northeast State locations.

Q: Can I register for classes at the campus?
A: Students may register, drop/add classes, review billing information, etc., at the campus by using the NORSTAR system under the “Students” link  on Northeast State’s home page, then choosing the “My.Northeast” student portal link, and logging in using an assigned Northeast State username and password.

Q: Are any student support services available?
A: Students attending the Johnson City campus are afforded the same student support services as students attending at the Blountville campus. These services are provided by personnel working onsite and also by Northeast State staff from Blountville who visit the campus on a regularly scheduled or as-needed basis. Specific dates and times are posted at the campus. Additional information may be obtained by visiting the Johnson City campus administrative office or by contacting the Advising Resource Center for further details.

Q: What are the operating hours of the Johnson City campus?
A: Administrative office hours when classes are in session are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Between semesters, the administrative office hours are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
