Work-Study Students

The Federal Work-Study Program offers students an opportunity to earn money for educational expenses.

Students are paid an hourly wage rate for work performed. Earnings may not exceed the amount of the award. These funds are not used to pay tuition and fees.

Eligible students may have the opportunity to perform community service on or off campus or work as tutors in local elementary schools for the America Reads Program.

  3. Students will receive an email via their MyNortheast email regarding eligibility.
  4. Eligible students will be phoned to set up an interview with supervisors.

Position 2-B

Blountville Campus

Not Major Specific
TASKS:  Typing, Filing, Copy, Record Management, Run Errands, Check Equipment, Tutoring Lab Work, Answer Telephone, Basic Computer skills, Tutoring, Receive visitors (Reception)
SKILLS:  Tutor in at least (1) needed subject, peers in a one on one environment.  Will work in the office when not tutoring.  Must be dependable with a patient demeanor in working with a diverse group of students and the public.
8-10 hours per week up to 25 hours per week (this position will utilize multiple student workers)
Monday through Thursday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm

Position 6-B

Blountville Campus

Not Major Specific
TASKS:  Tutoring. (Not all who apply for this position will tutor.) Customer service, general office duties.  Run Errands as needed.
SKILLS:  For tutors in this position, must have an "A" or "B" in the subject to be tutored as well as a GPA of 2.0 or above to meet standard SAP requirements.  Currently needed are all Math and Science subjects.  Must have cheerful, patient attitude. Willingness and drive to assist others. 

Monday through Friday, times will vary depending on students' class schedule.  This position will be held by multiple students due the nature of the position and need.

Position 7-B

Blountville, Kingsport, Elizabethton, Johnson City Campuses

Not Major Specific
TASKS:  Mentor.  Will be trained to assist students in: Using a syllabus, time management, balancing life/school, study skills, note taking, test taking strategies, test anxiety and personal/college finances.
SKILLS:  MUST have completed at least (1) semester of college at Northeast State or other institution.  Minimum 2.5 GPA. Recommendation from at least (2) faculty and/or staff members regarding character and dependability.  Complete initial training sessions.  Effective verbal and written communication skills.  Ability to establish positive work relationship with students and staff.  Computer, I-Pad, and/or office skills. Familiar with Degree Works, MyNortheast and D2L.  

8-10 hours per week. Days and Times can vary depending on your class schedule.

TASKS:  Tutoring with office tasks such as: Typing, Filing, Copying, Answering phones, Record keeping, Computer use, Run Errands, Assist in Labs, Check Equipment, Stock Work, Reception.
SKILLS: MUST be able to tutor in at least (1) subject. Minimum 2.0 GPA or above to meet satisfactory academic progress. Will work one on one with students in a tutoring environment. Must be non-judgmental with patience.  As tutors will work with diverse groups of students who may have learning and/or psychological disabilities, the highest level of confidentiality must be executed. 

8-10 hours per week. Monday through Thursday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. This position will need multiple applicants.

Position 12-B

Blountville Campus

TASKS:  Typing, Copy, Record Management, Run Errands, Basic Computer skills, Tutoring
SKILLS:  Must be able to interact well with students and the public. Must have a knowledge of D2L and APA format.  This position will assist in grading ePortfolio assignments as well as coaching other students to use both the ePortfolio and D2L. Those applying for this position must be dependable and able to work well independently.
10-20 hours per week (this position will utilize multiple student workers)

SKILLS:  Customer service a MUST, Telephone etiquette, Sales Experience, Data Entry
