iOPTiN

Beginning with Fall 2017, eTextbooks will no longer be automatically loaded before you go to class. Instead, the books will only be loaded after you choose to opt in.

Specific details of the new procedure are currently being finalized.  An update with this information will be sent out via your Northeast State email prior to the end of Spring 2017.

Loading of Summer 2017 eTextbooks to your account will follow the current opt-out process below.

iOPTiN is a program that delivers your required course materials, digitally, on the first day of class. You will see an “eTextbook Cost” associated with each course as you register for the class. The program prepares you with the materials you need to succeed and there are no surprises about costs after you’ve enrolled.

Example of the Bookshelf Menu Attention: If you are experiencing issues with the VitalSource® Bookshelf® app and see a statement that your eTextbook has expired, please complete the following steps:

  1. Open the Bookshelf's main menu
  2. Select the "Update Library" option to update your eTextbook access

Please Note: For full-term courses, students will have a 10-day period to try out the eTextbook. In that 10-day period, students have the option to "opt-out" of the eTextbook. For shorter terms, the trial period will be 5 days. You will be able to "opt-out" through a link in your My.Northeast account starting your first day of class. Please go to each class before choosing to "opt-out" of your eTextbook.

Yes, if a low-cost print version is available, you can purchase the low-cost print version of the textbook in the Bookstore if you still need a printed copy. You must stay “opted in” to the eTextbook to get the lower-cost print version. The cost will be different for each textbook, and the Bookstore can provide you with the cost information or you can click here. You cannot get the low-cost print copy until payment is received for the digital eTextbook.

If you choose to “opt out” of the eTextbook, then you can place an order through the Bookstore for the traditional textbook or find it on your own from another source at a potentially much higher price.

If the eTextbook has been inactive during a 48-hour period or if the trial period has expired, it will need to be refreshed. During the "opt-out" period, you have a free trial of the eTextbook. Refreshing gives you permanent access to the eTextbook. Log into your VitalSource® Bookshelf® app and click "Update Library" on the menu.
