Why do I have a hold on my account? – Several factors can cause a hold to be placed on a student’s records. A Business Office hold usually means that the student has an unpaid obligation such as unpaid tuition, application fee, late fee, parking fines, or library fines. A hold will be placed on the student’s records if mail is returned until the student’s address is updated with the Admissions and Records Office. Paying these obligations and/or updating the address will remove the hold(s) from the student’s records. The explanation for a hold is on the student’s My.Northeast account. After logging on to My.Northeast, the student selects the NORSTAR Tab. In the Academic Profile box, select Holds at the bottom. Staff can view the hold by selecting the Business Office Tab in this ARGOS application.

Why do I owe a late fee and have a late fee hold on my account? – The late fee is effective beginning the first day of classes for the term. As of the first day of classes, unpaid balances and late registrations are assessed a $10.00 late payment/registration fee (fees are subject to change without notice). The date the late fee begins is on the Academic Calendar.

I dropped my class(es) before the first day of the class, why am I not getting a 100% refund? – The last day for a 100% refund is the day before classes start for the term, regardless of the student’s actual first day of going to class. The date for the last day to get a 100% refund (and the days for 75% and 25% refunds) are listed on the Academic Calendar. Not all fees are refundable, so students only get credit for the tuition charge (no on-line fees for RODP, no campus access/technology/activity fees are refundable.)

My parent’s state employee discount is not showing on my account balance. – There is a specific date each semester when Northeast State can begin to post fee waivers. Refer to the Academic Calendar for the current term’s date. If the fee waiver is still not on the student account after that date, the student needs to contact the Business Office. If a student desires to use a fee waiver, it is the responsibility of the student to bring the fee waiver to the Business Office. Fee waivers are obtained from the parent’s employer, not the Northeast State Business Office. Each fee waiver must contain original signatures. Fee waivers should be turned into the Business Office when fees are paid for the upcoming semester.

In the case of external agency scholarships, the Business Office notifies the Scholarship Programs Office and requests that the award be posted as part of the student’s Financial Aid package.

When the Business Office receives approval from the Vice President’s office, the waiver will be posted to the student’s account.

What is a 1098-T tax form? – The 1098-T is an IRS form entitled “Tuition Statement” that assists the student in determining if he or she qualifies for certain education related tax credits under the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 (TRA97). The IRS requires eligible educational institutions such as Northeast State to file a 1098-T form each year for each student (excluding non-resident alien students) enrolled for whom a reportable transaction is made during the calendar year. 1098-T forms show only the amount the student was billed during the year, not what was paid.
