Testing Services
Testing
Services provides test administration and proctoring for Northeast State
students and distance learners in east Tennessee and Northeast State is an
official GED Testing Center. The administrative office is located in room
A205, in the Student Services building, on the Blountville campus.
Testing
Services has two computer-based Testing Centers. The main Testing Center is
located in room C2406 in the General Studies Building on the main campus.
A second one, in the Regional Center for Applied Technology Building at
Northeast State at Kingsport, is used for COMPASS testing by appointment.
GED testing is conducted off campus and is scheduled through an Adult Education
Center. Northeast State proctors CLEP, RODP and Distance Learning exams on
the main campus in room C2406.
The
Testing Service staff is committed to treating students fairly, courteously, and
professionally while protecting the integrity of each test. To benefit students
the following guidelines have been established for the Testing Center.
EXAMINEE
GUIDELINES
1. A
valid photo ID (driver’s
license, work or school ID) is required for testing.
2. Food
or beverages are not allowed
at the computer stations and must be stored while in the Testing Center.
3. Cell
phones must be turned on silent and collected
prior to testing. Students will not have access to them during testing or
breaks.
4. Children
are not allowed
in the Testing Center and must be under adult supervision while on
campus.
5. Students
who are ill;
coughing, high fever, or other contagious symptoms are encouraged to reschedule
their test.
6. Honesty
is the best policy!
The use of unauthorized aids, copying or any other form of cheating will result
in being dismissed from the Testing Center and appropriate action for that test
will be taken.
7. Students
whose behavior is a disturbance
to other students will be asked to leave the center.
8. Scratch
paper
must be turned in before leaving the Testing Center.
9. Students
who require accommodations; extended
time, etc. must first contact the Center for Students with
Disabilities.
10.
Students
will be seated as soon as a computer
station becomes available.

The GED
is
required for all persons who do not have a high school diploma
and desire to attend a college or university. Northeast State administers
the GED exam for students who have completed GED preparatory classes at an area
Adult
Education Center.
ACT
and SAT subscores in English, Math, and Reading place students 20 years and
younger into developmental or college-level courses. Click here for

Placement. Students 20 years and younger who are
high school graduates or GED recipients may take the COMPASS
test.
The COMPASS test is a placement exam required for all students 21 years of age who do not
have transfer credit in college English or college mathematics. COMPASS is also
required for students 20 years of age and younger who have less than a 19 on
their ACT English, math, and/or reading sub score.
The A2 Nursing Entrance Exam is required for students who have completed the
prerequisite courses and are applying for admission to the Northeast
State nursing program.
CLEP
tests are available for students to receive college credit.
Northeast
State proctors exams for students attending other colleges for a cost of $20 per
exam. Students must complete Northeast State’s Distance
Learning Proctoring Request Form.
The Proficiency Profile is required for students graduating with an Associate
degree.
