Privacy Statement for Northeast State Community College
Northeast State takes students’ privacy seriously, and the College is committed to protecting it. Personal information (i.e., name, address, telephone number, Social Security number, credit card information, etc.) obtained in the process of offering a financial product or service is collected mainly through voluntary submission of such information via the Web site, e-mail, telephone, fax, or mail. The College understands the need for personal information to remain confidential. Accordingly, Northeast State does not sell, trade, share, or give personal nonpublic financial information to any outside organization.
Directory Information is collected from all students enrolling at Northeast State. Northeast State considers Directory Information that may be released without the prior approval of the student to include student name, mailing address, phone number, photograph, date and place of birth, enrollment status, dates of attendance, classification, previous colleges attended, academic awards, degrees/certificates conferred (including dates awarded and major field of study), and e-mail address.
The primary purpose of Directory Information is to allow Northeast State to include this type of information in certain college publications (such as an honor roll or other recognition lists, graduation programs, etc.) However, Directory Information, which is information that is generally not considered harmful or an invasion of privacy if released, can also be disclosed to outside organizations without students' prior written consent. Students who prefer to have no directory information released may complete a Non-Release of Directory Information form. This form is available in the Admissions and Records Office. A new form must be completed each academic year.
Personal information submitted to Northeast State is entered into a database separate from the Web site to prevent unauthorized access and disclosure. Access to personal information is strictly controlled and limited to only those Northeast State personnel with a need to know to provide services to students. The staff and faculty are required to keep students’ personal information confidential and to use that information only to carry out services on behalf of Northeast State. Northeast State maintains physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with government regulations to guard customer information.
Personal information may be used to contact students. This contact may be in the form of a follow-up telephone call about information sent to a student or information a student has provided to the College. Northeast State uses the personal information to provide students with information about student financial aid resources.
