CLEP

College-Level Examination Program

CLEP is a credit-by-examination program accepted by most colleges and universities. Northeast State is an Open Test Center for the CLEP program; therefore, non-Northeast State students are welcome to take CLEP exams.

CLEP Examinations 

CLEP examinations cover material taught in courses that most students take as requirements in the first two years of college. Colleges generally grant the same amount of credit to students earning satisfactory scores on the CLEP examination as it grants to students successfully completing that course.  Northeast State does not award letter grades for CLEP examinations instead students receive a “P” for passing. 

Each exam is 90 minutes long, and, except for English Composition with Essay, is made up primarily of multiple-choice questions; however, some exams do have fill-ins.  Score reports for all examinations, except English Composition with Essay, are available immediately after completion of the test.  The College Board mails official results to students and the designated institution within two to three weeks while English Composition with Essay results may take up to six weeks. 

CLEP provides specific information on knowledge and skills required for all their examinations on the CLEP website.

Northeast State students, please check Northeast State’s course equivalency tablebefore signing up for an exam. Northeast State does not offer credit equivalency for all of the CLEP examinations. Non-Northeast State students must check with their home institution for approved CLEP examinations and credit hours earned for each exam.

CLEP Study Guide

Northeast State's Library has the official CLEP Study Guide available for checkout or it can be purchased at local bookstores or online at: www.collegeboard.com/clep . The cost is $18 for the complete study guide and $10 for study guides for individual subject areas.

Testing Dates and Times are listed on the Clep Registration. 

Testing Fees - $100.00  One exam per testing session.

1. $20.00 Non-refundable fee due with Registration Form to Northeast State.
2. $80.00  due day of testing to CLEP.

Registering for CLEP Test

Print Clep Registration Form  and submit it to the Northeast State Business Office.

Day of Exam

1. CLEP Test Location: Testing Center, Room C2406
2. Bring a credit card, check or money order, made payable to CLEP for $80.00.Credit cards are the preferred method of payment-only American Express, MasterCard and VISA are accepted. 
3. Two forms of personal identification are required.
