The purpose of Testing Services is to coordinate the administration of college testing. The office also provides high school equivalency testing services, certification testing, and proctoring of Distance Education exams to citizens in the College’s five county service area.

Northeast State proctors Distance Learner computer-based and paper-based exams (non-Northeast State exams) and Employee Certification tests for business and industry. It is the responsibility of the test taker to make sure Testing Services has the correct test and/or proctoring information. Home institutions or companies may email testing@NortheastState.edu for verifying information. 

Test takers are responsible for paying postage when paper exams must be mailed back to the home institution. There is a $25 fee for each proctored exam. Please check the Online Testing Registration schedule for availability. If dates are not available, email testing@NortheastState.edu. The $25 fee must be paid at the Cashier's Window on the first floor of the James Pierce Administration Building on the Blountville campus before testing. Check-in for the exams is in Room C2101 of the General Studies Building. The Testing Center is located in Room C2106.

Northeast State students requesting proctoring services for tests from other institutions will be charged the $25 fee per exam.


Testing fees for the ACCUPLACER(R) and A2 Nursing Assessment exams should be paid online at:  http://training.northeaststate.edu/.  Click on Payment for Testing Services and then Payment for ACCUPLACER or A2 Nursing.  Testing fees for CLEP and distance learner proctored exams must be paid at the Cashier's Window on the first floor of the James Pierce Administration Building on the Blountville campus. Testing Services staff cannot accept payments.

  • EMS Certification Exams - Only eligible students may test. Contact David Bryant at 423.354.2535 or dlbryant@NortheastState.edu for information on eligibility.
  •  INFS Credit-by-Exam  - This exam may not fulfill the Computer Proficiency requirements at transfer institutions. Students wishing to transfer to other colleges or universities with Computer Proficiency requirements must contact the transfer institution for verification of exam acceptance before scheduling the INFS Credit-by-Exam. 

    ETSU will accept the INFS Credit-by-Exam as the graduation requirement for Using Information Technology (UIT) at the university. No transfer credit for CSCI 1100 at the university will be awarded by ETSU based on the exam. 

    Request for Credit by Examination Form must be obtained in Room F211 of the Faculty Office Building on the Blountville campus. After obtaining the form, a test date may be scheduled. This exam can only be taken once. Retesting is not allowed. The exam is only available on the Blountville campus. The $25 fee must be paid at the Cashier's Window on the first floor of the James Pierce Administration Building on the Blountville campus prior to testing.  Check-in for the exam is in Room C2101 of the General Studies Building. The Testing Center is located in Room C2106.
  •  Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS)  

    Microsoft Office Specialist testing is offered at the Blountville campus for Northeast State students. Students can obtain certification in 2016 Office Word®, Word Expert®, Excel®, PowerPoint®, Access®, and/or Outlook®.

    Step 1: Go online to purchase the exam(s) at https://shop.certiport.com.

    Step 2: Use coupon code "HEDTN25D" for 25% off retail for most exams.
