A.A.S. Nursing Program Admission Assessment - A2

The A2 is a computerized nursing entrance exam required for admission to the Northeast State Associate of Applied Science Nursing Degree programs (Traditional and LPN to RN options). The results will be used to determine readiness for and success in the programs. Students must have a Northeast State Application for Admission on file before taking the A2.

Study and Review Materials

All Northeast State libraries carry the HESI Admission Assessment Exam Review for check out, ISBN-13 9780323582261 . The book may also be purchased at local retailers or online. Online study materials for nursing entrance exams in general, not specific to the A2, can be accessed through the Testing and Education Resource Center database. Check with a Northeast State librarian for more information. Additional information can be obtained at Evolve®, the Elsevier Education site for healthcare educators and students.

There are two testing cycles per year: Cycle 1 (Spring) February – May and Cycle 2 (Fall) September – November. The A2 will be available by appointment only. Applicants are responsible to complete testing by the deadline for their respective programs.

Students are allowed one retest per cycle. Students who want to retest in order to raise their scores must wait one week before testing. Only one complete Score Report can be submitted with the nursing application. Retesting will not be allowed for students who take the A2 for the first time during the last week of testing.

Test dates are typically added 30 days advance. Dates are also added periodically, so keep checking back.  (You MUST have an access code* to register for a date/time - see below).

There are two testing cycles per year: Cycle 1 (Spring) February – May and Cycle 2 (Fall) September – November.  Please be aware of application deadlines from the Nursing Department and schedule your test accordingly.

Please read the following information carefully before paying the $10 fee online on the registration website.  This will open 30 days prior to the first day of testing in the fall and spring cycles.  Click on “Payment for Testing Services” then “Payment for A2 Nursing”.  If you are testing for the first time in a cycle, choose "A2 Nursing First Time" to add to cart. (If you tested before in a different cycle, this would be your first time in a new cycle).  If this is a retest in the same cycle, choose "A2 Nursing Retest" and add to cart.  After you pay the fee you will receive an email within three business days. The email will list the steps for scheduling a test date (*access code is required) and how to create an EVOLVE/HESI account to pay for the A2 test.

After you have paid the $10 fee online, an email will be sent to you within 3 business days with an access code that must be used to complete the scheduling process.  Instructions for paying the HESI exam fee online will also be included in that email.  Available test dates fill up quickly and are closed when filled. One week is required between retests; therefore, anyone testing for the first time during the last week of the cycle will not be allowed a retest.
