In 2024 we researched the theme, "Stories of Persistence, Resilience, Healing, and Sorrow," which asks how such stories can provoke and inspire us to develop resilience in the face of difficulty. Our research revealed that the elderly population in Tennessee is increasing significantly and that older adults can become socially isolated which increases health risks.
We engaged in a community action project, Inspiring Generations, in which we interviewed residents at the Blake Senior Living. They served as our mentors, telling us their life stories of overcoming obstacles, which recorded and compiled for inclusion in the Basler Library Tennessee History: Reclaiming the Past database.
Currently, the 2025-26 officer team is researching the history of the Chickamauga Wars, seeking to capture the Cherokee perspective. We have made contact with Cherokee scholars from the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and are planning a meeting. Stay tuned!
These stories will inspire us and anyone who reads them now or in the future.
If you are interested in helping, come to our first PTK Member Meeting on September 25, 2025, in L226. Time TBA.
Last year, we worked with Dr. McCord, Student Success, and Student Life on a proposal for a new outdoor area for students that we are calling "The Porch at Basler Library." We hope to create a sense of "student soul" with this space, leaving portions of our personalities behind through what we helped to build, both conceptually and physically. Our personalities will become evident in the feeling of this new space, making the campus a home away from home for students who gather there. The concrete and flower beds are in place. The three picnic tables will be installed by Fall 2025.
We are again working with Dr. McCord to determine our 2025-26 project. Stay tuned!
