I’m a Clinical Psychology major with a background in media production, where I’ve worked professionally for the past 20 years. My journey through higher education has been anything but traditional, and I know firsthand what it feels like to start fresh and navigate new territory. That’s one of the biggest reasons I became a Peer Mentor — to support fellow students as they find their footing, build confidence, and explore all that college has to offer.
When I’m not studying or working, you’ll probably find me reading a good book or hanging out with my best friend — a very opinionated chihuahua who keeps life fun. I’m passionate about cultivating a positive environment, encouraging others to step outside their comfort zones and shine their brightest.
I’m currently working on my Associate of Science in Information Systems with the goal of becoming a data analyst. As an adult student, I’ve learned a lot through my academic journey—both the challenges and the strategies that make a real difference. I’m excited to be a peer mentor because I genuinely love helping others succeed. Whether it’s offering advice, sharing study tips, or just being someone to talk to, I’m here to support you however I can. Let’s navigate this journey together!
I’m majoring in Computer Information Technology with a focus on System Administration and Management. I also plan to earn a second degree in the same field with a concentration in Networking.
My long-term goal is to further my education in Networking and apply the skills I’ve gained at Northeast State to the computer repair business that my partner and I currently own. Eventually, I plan to move outside of the United States and use my degree and experience to support that transition.
Last semester, I had the opportunity to assist a few students with class-related issues, and I found it truly rewarding. It reminded me of my own first semester at Northeast State and how overwhelming everything felt. Looking back, I know that asking for help would have saved me a lot of stress. If I can now be the person who helps even one student feel less overwhelmed as they begin their college journey, that alone will be fulfilling for me.
Hello! I’m excited to work with other students achieving their academic dreams! I enjoy music and playing instruments such as the flute. I strive to keep a positive attitude, and a hardworking spirit.
My name is Isaias Violante. I’m currently in my 4th semester at Northeast State Community College, double majoring in Theatre and Communication. My goal is to be a well-rounded individual and student while pursuing the career I love in the Theatrical Arts.
As a Peer Mentor, my job is to help you get acclimated, comfortable, and confident as you take this next step in your educational journey. Through my past experiences in classes like Intro to Theatre and Early and Modern U.S. History, and the lessons I’ve learned along the way, I’m confident I can help you succeed.
A few of my favorite things:Hi. My name is John Stempnik. I am pursuing my associate’s degree in applied science with a focus on business. I often say that I am living my life in reverse. I am 50 years old; I’ve been married for just about 20 years, and I have two adult children (25 and 23) that have successful careers of their own. I joined the Army right out of high school and served for about 5 ½ years. I jumped right into service and repair of over the road semi-trucks and diesel construction equipment after my time in the service. I transitioned into various roles working for General Motors and have enjoyed (mostly) a 25-year career in the automotive field.
I decided it was time to go back to school to fulfill my dream of being a college graduate. I wanted to show myself and my sons that it’s never too late or too hard to chase a dream. It’s my hope to support you to do the same for yourself. Although I’ve been successful within my current career, I am excited to see what new doors this degree opens. I would like to use my life experiences, successes, and sense of humor to help ease your transition into college life.
Hi, I’m Olivia Hickman! I’m 19 years old and currently a psychology major at Northeast State Community College, where I started in the fall of 2024. After graduation, I plan to transfer to East Tennessee State University (ETSU) to pursue my master’s degree and become a licensed grief counselor.
Over the past two years, I’ve worked as a teaching assistant for KACHEA’s high school math class and taught Sunday school at my church. These experiences have deepened my love for helping others, which is why I chose to become a mentor. I’ve seen firsthand how valuable a great mentor can be—my Tennessee Promise mentor played a huge role in helping me transition from being homeschooled to becoming a full-time college student. I hope to offer that same support to someone else on their journey.
Fun facts about me:My name is Ryan Adkins, and I am a communications major. I am highly involved around the campus and have learned a lot about how the school functions. Sometimes all it takes is a little bit of guidance or support to have a much better experience, and I'm hoping to provide that to fellow students.
Hi, I'm Shelbie! I'm a foreign language major and I will be graduating in the spring of 2026. I am also a lifeguard and enjoy helping others, which is why I decided to become a peer mentor. By being a peer mentor, I hope I can use this experience to help fulfill my goal of becoming a teacher.
Hello! I am Shelly Easterling, a sophomore studying elementary education. Returning to college as a nontraditional, full-time student and also a mother has given me firsthand experience balancing academics and family life. When I am not studying, I love cheering for my kids at sporting events, volunteering at their schools, and enjoying the outdoors.
I am excited to put my personal and academic insights into supporting new college students as they navigate their own path. I’ve successfully helped peers with practical strategies for time management, finding a healthy school-life balance, and coping with academic stress. I’m excited to help you build confidence and succeed! I believe mentoring is a great way to refine my leadership, communication, and connection building skills.
Hello, I am Stephanie Bolden, but my friends normally just call me Steph. I am Pre-Vet Science major on a transfer path to LMU. I have big aspirations of staying at Lincoln Memorial all the way through to my doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. I hope to receive my license in small, large, equestrian, and exotic animal medicine/care. In my free time, I love to spend time with my animals. I have four cats, a cattle dog, and a bearded dragon, so it is never a dull moment in my house.
I have been a peer mentor for about two years now and enjoy being able to help new students navigate time management and starting college life. Other than the peer mentor program I am also highly involved in Phi Theta Kappa and the Honors Student Association. I am excited to get to know you and work alongside you in this transition into college life!
Hi, I’m Rayne! I love baking, traveling, and spending cozy nights in with my cat, Salem. As a peer mentor, my goal is to help students feel comfortable on campus, build meaningful connections, and achieve their academic goals while feeling like they truly belong here.
Hi, I’m James Whitson! I’m currently pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice and have a deep passion for civil service and supporting others in reaching their goals. As a peer mentor, I’m excited to help fellow students navigate their academic journey and find success along the way.
Outside of school, I’m a proud husband and father of six, two of whom serve in the military. I’m also a devoted cat dad to two black cats, Jinx and Nyx. In my downtime, you’ll usually find me immersed in video games or expanding my growing vinyl record collection. I believe in the power of community, encouragement, and a good playlist to get you through just about anything. Looking forward to connecting!
Hey y’all! My name is Railey and I am a peer mentor here at Northeast State Community College. A few things about myself is that I love to travel to new places, spend time at the beach and the lake, and spend time with my boyfriend! I am majoring in Radiologic Technology and plan to pursue as many certifications in the field as I can! To me, being a peer mentor means being there for students when they need guidance and support, especially upon entering college for the first time. I look forward to the school year ahead!
My name is Yeboah Adade, and I am currently doing my nursing courses at this noble institution. I am a hard working and driven individual who is not afraid to face any challenges. I am always passionate about my work, and I would describe myself as open, honest, and fair in everything I do. I am here to work with new students because I believe in the power of team work. Thank you.
