Students in Computer Science build a strong foundation that equips them either move directly into the workforce as Cybersecurity technicians, System Administrators, Network Technicians, or programmers or move on to a university to continue their education. Courses in this program include Cybersecurity, Windows System Administration, Cisco CCNA Networking, and Computer Applications & Organization. In addition to these core classes, students will complete courses in Communications, Mathematics, Writing, and more. Students completing their degrees will learn the technical skills of today for the technology jobs of tomorrow.
Accredited by the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE)
The Cyber Defense Concentration will focus on general cyber security, network security, ethical hacking, and digital forensics. Students will learn how to fortify computer networks to defend against security breaches from cyber terrorists or other intruders using CompTIA’s Security+ certification content. In addition, they will learn how to test these fortifications using ethical hacking techniques from either CompTIA’s Pentest+ or EC-Council’s Ethical Hacker Essentials certification courses. Additional topics include learning how to use digital forensic techniques and software to analyze system breaches or recover evidence of crimes left on a computer. Through these learning topics, students will develop strong critical thinking skills by doing hands-on labs in a simulated real-world environment.
Accredited by the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE)
Students in the Networking Concentration will complete coursework and hands-on experience in planning and design, implementation, and maintenance of networks of different sizes. The courseware includes the Cisco CCNA networking concentration delivered by the Cisco Networking Academy where students are able to work with both virtual and physical Cisco switches and routers. In addition to these virtual and physical learning tools, students have access to the only working data center dedicated to student access and learning in the region.
Accredited by the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE)
The Systems Administration and Management Concentration focuses on the design, implementation, management and troubleshooting of computer systems. Students learn about networking (CompTIA Network+), hardware (Comptia A+), Linux and Windows server administration and many other items in this program. Students have access to a real working data center that is dedicated to student use to learn how to manage and maintain in the data center course that is unique to Northeast State.
Accredited by the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE)
The Programming Concentration is a preparation for a career as a programmer or software engineer. Students learn how to code in various languages including python, C+, Java, and C#. Additional learning includes critical thinking and problem solving as students learn how to take real-world problems and needs and create solutions using code. The programming curriculum also involves coursework that involves machine learning and AI (Artificial Intelligence).
