Brightspace (D2L) Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I find my Northeast State student email address?

A: Every student at Northeast State receives a student email account during the registration process. Most student email addresses follow this format:

username@stumail.northeaststate.edu

If you do not know your username or student email address, you can look it up using the Help Desk article below:

Lookup Your Northeast State Username and Email Address

You may also contact the Help Desk for assistance at 423-354-2464.

Q: How do I log into Brightspace (D2L)?

A: To access Brightspace (D2L), start by visiting the Northeast State homepage at:

https://www.northeaststate.edu

Select My Northeast at the top of the page. This will take you to the MyNE Dashboard, where you can log in using your Northeast State username and password.

From the MyNE Dashboard, students can access:

  • Brightspace (D2L)
  • Student email
  • Self-Service and registration tools
  • Campus announcements and resources
  • Other Northeast State online services

Q: What is my default password?

A: New student passwords are set using the following format:

NESmmddyyyynes

Replace mmddyyyy with your 8-digit birthdate.

For example, if your birthdate is January 15, 2005, your default password would be:

NES01152005nes

After logging in, students are encouraged to change their password through the MyNE Dashboard.

Q: I forgot my password. How do I reset it?

A: When resetting your password, the system will ask for your Northeast State student email address. Although this may seem unusual, entering your correct student email address in the format below will send a password reset link to your personal secondary email address on file.

username@stumail.northeaststate.edu

Important:

  • You must have a secondary email address added in your MyNE Dashboard before password recovery will work.
  • After adding a secondary email address, the system sends a verification email. You must click the verification link before the address becomes active.
  • If your secondary email address has not been verified, you will not receive password reset emails.

If you continue having trouble, please contact the Help Desk at 423-354-2464.

Q: I cannot log into My Northeast. It says my username or password is invalid. What should I do?

A: This message usually means one of the following:

  • Your username or password was entered incorrectly.
  • Your account information has not yet synchronized with Brightspace.
  • You recently registered for classes and your information is still processing.

If you continue having trouble, please contact the Help Desk at 423-354-2464 or the Office of Academic Computing at 423-212-3552.

Q: I can read email in Brightspace, but I cannot send messages. Why?

A: The Brightspace email compose window opens as a popup window. Popup blockers in your browser may prevent the compose screen from appearing.

Also, Brightspace email is an internal messaging system. Messages can only be sent to users within Brightspace and cannot be sent to outside email accounts.

YuJa Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I access my YuJa recordings?

A: YuJa recordings are accessed directly through your course in Brightspace (D2L).

To access your recordings:

  • Log into Brightspace (D2L)
  • Open your course
  • Select YuJa from the course navigation bar

Your instructor’s recorded lectures and course videos will appear there when they become available.

Q: I cannot access YuJa. What should I do?

A: Access to YuJa depends on enrollment information being shared from Brightspace. Students who register late, are re-added to a class, or make schedule changes after the add/drop period may not immediately appear in YuJa.

If you cannot access YuJa through your Brightspace course, please contact the Office of Academic Computing at 423-212-3552.

Q: I logged into YuJa, but I do not see any recordings for my class.

A: There are several possible reasons:

  • Your instructor may not have recorded any lectures yet.
  • The recordings may still be uploading from the classroom system.
  • A recording may still be processing and temporarily unavailable.

Some recordings may take up to 24 hours before they are fully available for viewing.
